The Workshop

The Forgiveness Story workshop centers on the premise that Forgiveness is about letting go of resentment. In the workshop you will create a story that reflects the story behind your resentment.

But this story will not be the ‘real’ story; it will be a reflection of your story. Like when they say ‘based on a true story.’ That’s what this is; a story loosely based on your story. The names will change, the genders may change, the actual event(s) may change, but the story will be real.

Why?

By creating a story that’s ‘like’ yours, you will gain distance, you will gain a perspective that cannot be had when you’re living it or telling it to someone else. You will create a situation much like your own but you will gain the advantage of being able to look at it objectively.

It will be much like watching a movie that you recognize yourself in. It’s not exactly your situation but you can feel for the characters and know what they’re going through.

And since you’re the storyteller, you can create it any way you like. It will most likely morph and evolve as you go along. That’s good. With every change comes new clarity.

That’s what we’re after here, clarity. By the time you’re through you will have identified the subjective emotional cause of your resentment. You will have a better idea about how you’ve lost your power and once you’ve identified that, you will have a much clearer picture of how to get it back.

Make no mistake, this is not an easy process and is not for the faint of heart. Things will most likely get stirred up that don’t want to get stirred up. Old wounds will be bared and old demons will not go down without a fight.

But if you’re honest and committed to the process you will find a new strength in yourself. Not really new but re-newed. The strength was always there – it just got lost for a while.
